Huge Bucks Everywhere

At a recent banquet, I bid on and won an item in the silent auction for a trophy whitetail deer or elk hunt at Horseshoe Hill Ranch. I called the owner, Bob McConnell, and booked a 160+ class whitetail hunt.

Horseshoe Hill Ranch is located in Western Pennsylvania, about 100 miles northeast of Pittsburgh in Reynoldsville. They have 1,025 acres of rolling hills, tall oaks, and tree-covered ridges surrounded by creek bottom swamps and large strips of food plots. The four-bedroom, four-bathroom, 3,500-square-foot lodge was very comfortable and included all meals prepared and served by the in-house chef. Additional pheasant and chukar hunts are also available. Pinnacle Hunt

Words fail as I attempt to thank you for the hunting experience of a lifetime. I have always thought that the pinnacle of my hunting experience was hunting dangerous game in Africa. I have been blessed to have darted a rhino, taken two cape buffalo, and a huge, black-maned lion.

The lion had been a lifelong dream, but you have helped to fullfill an equally important hunting fantasy - that of taking a monstrous, massive, non-typical buck. This dream buck grossed 230 inches and had 25 points! The rack weighed 10 pounds. I am still in a state of shock and disbelief.

To share this hunt with my brother made it even more special. Bob harvested a giant 391 inch bull elk. He too, is dumbfounded at his success.

This is truly a fair chase hunt, as the deer and elk roam freely over a vast expanse of land. Bob and I took both of our trophies by spot and stalk.

I am very impressed with your honesty and straughtforward style. Everything, including the trophy quality of your game, is exactly as you describe-and even better! You work hard to please your clients and you are very attentive to even the smallest detail.

When driving back to Florida, Bob and I both agreed that this indeed was the "perfect" hunt. It was so perfect , in fact, that I am already planning a return trip.

Once again, thanks for providing us with memories that will live in our minds forever. Such and experience is priceless.

Huge Antlers

In 2006 I self diagnosed as obsessive/compulsive regarding big antlers on Whitetail Bucks. First tried to treat this disorder by hunting in Texas taking 2 bucks in the 140 class. During the fall of 2007 the only treatment was a trip to Saskatchewan and a 180 class typical. The obsession became so strong in 2008 that even after another trip to freezing (-20°F) and a 231 Non-typical, I booked a hunt to Pennsylvania with Horseshoe Hill Ranch and Bob McConnell.

At Horseshoe Hill Rach, I was after a specific buck - very large with non-typical antlers. Bob was doing everything he could to put me on this buck, walking swamps and thickets with drivers. He did push the buck out of a swamp within 125 yards of the stand my guide and I were in, but we were watching a young 8-point and did not see the large deer. Bob and Kirk set up another drive and Nate jumped the buck from his bed. Deer were running everywhere as they came down the snow-covered hill with the large buck in last place. We were set up and ready and my shot was true. Big buck down! Scored 251” non-typical.

Booked a return hunt with Bob for 2009 and was fortunate to be have my son with me. First afternoon on stand and sighting was slow, but we could hear bucks fighting in the woods above the stand. Wasn’t long until a large buck came staggering down the hill, exhausted from fighting. Again shot was true and a 243” buck was down. Next afternoon we went to an elevated lift blind where Nate did a sequence of rattles and here came a very nice buck up the hill looking for the fight. Shane made a good kill and a 177” buck was down.

Bob McConnell and his guides do everything within their ability to accommodate each hunter and make the hunt an experience to remember. Although this is a High Fence facility, hunting on 1000 acres is truly hunting not just showing up and shooting an animal. The lodge and food are great.

Do I recommend Bob McConnell and Horseshoe Hills? 100%. If you are interested in hunting a Trophy Whitetail with the potential to kill a Great Trophy call Bob and book a hunt. His guides are totally familiar with the property and make the hunt an enjoyable experience.

Nothing Compares to HHR

I wanted to write this letter to thank you for the great time I had on your hunting ranch this past year. I have hunted with a lot of outfitters in the past but, none have compared to you, I saw a lot of good bucks and had a lot of great shooting opportunities. Besides the great hunting, the hospitality and the food were second to none. I hope to be back soon and maybe get another chance at that 195 class typical buck that I let get away.

Dreams Come True

We had a terrific time while hunting at Horseshoe Hill Ranch, everything and everyone were first rate. The food was wonderful, the hospitality was perfect, and the lodging was the best. My wife and I really enjoyed the spectacular scenery, and feel that we have made a true friendship with Bob McConnell and his staff. The hunt itself was a dream, and I am looking forward to being back there this fall and many more to come. Great Experience

I have hunted Potter County for 25 years and never had the experience that I had with Horseshoe Hill. I saw more bucks than I ever had before and could pick and choose my shooting opportunities. Awesome First Hunt

Thanks for making my first hunting experience with my new rifle a success. My dad brought me to HH Ranch as a surprise Whitetail hunt. After seeing many great Whitetails, a Bull Elk came up over the ridge and I was in awe. I looked at my Dad and asked him if I could shoot an Elk. After discussion with the guide, I shot my first big game elk. The experience was AWESOME!

Hunt of a Lifetime

In April 2007 when I contacted Horseshoe Hill Ranch and spoke to Ranch Owner Bob McConnell (who was my first and only call) to obtain more information about the ranch, I knew just by talking with him that it was where I wanted to spend my vacation and have the hunt of a lifetime with the (3) generations of Stevens, my father-in-law, husband and son. After receiving the information on the ranch in the mail and pulling up information on line, the excitement was building. The pictures were beautiful and the lodge looked fantastic. I could not wait until November when we were planning to travel from Virginia Beach, Virginia to Pennsylvania. Upon arrival at the ranch, Bob and his staff made us feel right at home. It was like the southern hospitality we were used to. The ranch is a magnificent place with the rustic decor and all of the comforts of home. Also, the meals that were prepared were absolutely fantastic! If I were planning another hunting trip, I would go back to Horseshoe Hill Ranch because of Bob and his staff.

Just wanted to send a quick note to thank you for the experience of a lifetime! When I placed a call to you, I had all my questions lined up so I knew exactly what I was getting into, and wouldn’t have any surprises. Who knew we would be talking numerous times before I even booked the hunt! You took the time personally to inform and keep me aware of every aspect of what I could expect, and the experience was even better in person. My friend and I booked the hunt of a lifetime, and the trophy deer I shot is the envy of my family and friends (all serious and great hunters). We already have the next hunt set up, and I plan to go for an elk to add to my trophies. (Just make sure the cook comes back!)
